Born in 1949, Roger grew up in a generation where outdoor activity was the norm. Fitness was a way of life in small town Minnesota and Roger was always active. Coming from a family of medical professionals, health was an early interest. His father was a doctor, his mother a nurse. Roger’s younger brother is also a nurse. Roger’s wife teaches the vision impaired and his daughter is a Family Therapist. Roger began learning anatomy at the age of 10 when he began working with and assisting his father, a County Coroner, in the local morgue.
Roger developed a love for endurance sports in the early 1970's when he began distance bicycle riding that soon morphed into skiing marathon distances, first at the Bierkebiener in northern Wisconsin and then all over the Midwest. He soon began enjoying more of the endurance sports and training in the forms of bicycling and running.
Although Roger began teaching fitness and wellness as a group fitness instructor for his local school district in the mid 1970's, it wasn’t until the late 1990s that Roger discovered the amazing restorative and healing benefits of the Aaron Mattes’ method of Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) and strengthening. As Roger became a proficient practitioner of AIS, Aaron soon became both a friend and mentor. It wasn’t long before Aaron gave Roger his “blessing” and asked Roger to be his assistant. Roger teaches AIS Seminars and conducts AIS Workshops, both along with and Aaron and by himself, across North America and Canada. Roger is proud to carry on the healing works of Aaron Mattes.
As Roger started his own practice, and his expertise grew, he has earned certification and/or membership in the following:
